Wilson was born to Paul and Anita Wilson, both professionals.  His favoured team is Manchester United, and he consequently modelled himself on Dimitar Berbatov, the Bulgarian International forward.  However, the 2010 - 2011 season gave Wilson a new role model; the 10-year old Wilson began to look up the English front man Wayne Rooney, who also played for Manchester United.  Wilson's mother later spoke of her son's dream of playing for Manchester United, and said that his admiration for Rooney was such that, he slept in a Manchester United Shirt, much to the annoyance of his father who is a Preston North End fan.
